MUSIC SUPPLIES
There are many sites on the Internet that carry music and music supplies. Here are a few that I particularly like and some tools and accessories that I'm also fond of.
Osmun Music, Inc.
I have mentioned Osmun Music on another page of this site. They offer instruments and accessories and also offer repair services at their Arlington, Massachusetts shop.
Giardinelli Band Instruments
Giardinelli is another store that carries instruments, mouthpieces, and accessories. They used to have a physical presence in New York City for many years but now run their operation entirely from the Internet. They have a very large stock instruments and accessories.
Luck's Music Library
Luck's Music Library is the world's largest distributor of orchestral sheet music. I have ordered from them and can say they have excellent customer service in addition to the benefits of their extensive inventory.
Sources for Published Music
Thomas Bacon's HornPlanet is an excellent resource for information on horn. He has placed a compilation of links to Sources for Published Music on his site. It includes physical addresses, URLs, E-mail addresses, and his recommendations.
Alexander Mouthpiece Pressure Device
The Alexander Mouthpiece Pressure Device is a spring-tension metal device that is placed between the mouthpiece and the leadpipe. The device uses a variable- resistance spring design, so that you can adjust the tension at your own will. If you use more pressure than the spring can accommodate, the air will escape a valve and not go directly into the mouthpipe. Since the device adds about 2 inches to the length of the leadpipe, your playing position—namely your left hand position—will be slightly altered. You have to remember that when you're using it so that you don't end up smacking yourself in the mouth. I speak from experience............
The Intellitouch Tuner™
The Intellitouch Tuner™ clamps onto the horn and measures pitch by vibration rather than sound. This is great for keeping your pitch in check when practicing with a mute. And speaking of practicing with a mute.............................
Yamaha Silent Brass Horn System
My most well-spent money for a horn accessory has to be for the Yamaha Silent Brass Horn System. I bought mine when they were first introduced on the market. I was on the road and this mute made it so much easier to get my daily practicing done without having to make an extra trip to the theater or disturbing the other hotel guests. The Silent Brass is a mute with a condenser microphone inside. It plugs into a "personal studio" with which you can adjust the room ambiance from Practice Room to Cathedral. There are also input and out put jacks, allowing you to record through the unit, play along with CDs or play duets with another Silent Brass user by plugging both mutes and headphones into a single personal studio. The link that I've provided here leads to Youffer's Music. I think they have the lowest price for the system and you can also purchase replacement parts.
